Special Emergency Announcement
In-light of the situation of our Nation and State dealing with the Coronavirus I feel we need to take action as a Post.
Due to the recent announcements of President Trump and Texas Governor Abbot. Post Officers have met and made decisions about upcoming events of the post for the safety of the membership. It is the responsibility of the Post Officers to ensure the welfare and security of the post.
That being said, the picnic scheduled for March 14th has been postponed. This decision was made with the recommendations of the World Health Organization and CDC guide lines. 2nd Vice Carlos Vela, Adjutant Jamie Caratini and myself talked and made the decision to postpone the event until the State of Emergencies where rescinded. A new date will be announced.
I talked with the management of the Casa Helotes Senior Center. Their Board has voted to close down until April 6th. Their reasoning is their members are at the age where the virus could be deadly. There will be two meetings during that time period. The General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, March 18th. The guidelines recommend no gatherings of more than fifteen people in a meeting, and the fact that our meeting place is closed. There will not be a meeting for the month of March. The next meeting would be the Executive Meeting. I propose that meeting be held via Zoom.
As the days go on we will watch what the WHO and the CDC are suggesting. Hopefully we, as a nation, will heed these guild lines so that our nation has few cases and a speedy recovery. As we monitor the situation we will keep you posted on any meeting and event schedules
We have talked in the past of the Buddy Check Program. There is no better time than now to check on your buddies. Sunday will be the 101st anniversary of the American Legion. One of the Buddy Check days, recommended by our Nation Commander. Plus it,s about time you talked to that old buddy you haven’t talked to in years.
Please take care of yourselves. Follow all the rules of disease prevention to ensure you won’t get ill or spread disease to your loved ones.
